What is the cost of solar panels?

The best way to determine the cost of solar panels is to understand how quickly your solar panel system will pay itself and how much money you can potentially save on your quarterly power bill.

There are many companies offering an array of solar panels, so how do you determine if you’re getting the best deal? Below are some questions you could ask to ensure that you get the right system for your needs.

  • What type of solar panels do you use?
  • What comprehensive warranty do you offer on the entire system?

Below is a brief explanation of the answers that you require:

Type of solar panels:

There are three types of panels: monocrystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous.

Monocrystalline silicon is the most efficient and produces the smallest solar cells, and therefore the smallest panels.

Polycrystalline (or multi-crystalline) silicon produces the next most efficient type of solar cell.

Amorphous (or thin-film) silicon uses the least amount of silicon and produces the least efficient solar cells. This means thin film systems take up more area than the other two; an important factor to consider in relation to possible future upgrades; i.e. if you’ll have enough space left to do so.

We recommend the use of monocrystalline solar panels as they have the highest output and will provide the maximum benefit. It is also important to ensure the company you use uses multi diode panels in order to maximise the efficiency of your solar system. Multi diode panels preserve the integrity of your output even in partial shading, which maximises your energy output and saving.

Warranty:
When purchasing solar panels, read the warranty agreement in order to know the terms of the warranty period and warranty limitations. You will find that some companies offer an inverter warranty only which leaves the customer vulnerable to any other aspect of the system going wrong. True Value Solar offers a full comprehensive warranty. To view our warranties page click here.

Which solar panel system should you choose? It can be tricky to decide what size solar panel system to install. We suggest that if you have a roof that has optimum positioning, it is worth installing the largest system that you can fit and afford, as this will maximise your returns.

Tip: to maximise the return on investment of your solar panels, we suggest that you minimise your electricity consumption between 10am and 3pm as this is usually when the panels absorb the most sunlight.

We make it our business to educate our customers to ensure they maximise their savings. Please contact one of our solar specialists on 13 SOLAR to determine the right system for your needs.

I don’t see any prices in this section? Am I missing them or am I looking in the wrong section?

Customer Service says:

Excess power generated by your solar system is sold back to the grid, this is sold at a higher rate than your purchase rate per kWh.

We contact your energy supplier to advise them that your house is now running on solar power; to connect your system to the grid. (Excluding WA, contact Synergy for your application form)
